Compute workload capacity worksheet
Estimate planning cores and replicas from synthetic RPS, service time, cores, and headroom; no Azure performance claim.
Run the local exercise
Key results
| Metric | Value | Unit |
|---|---|---|
| CPU cores needed before headroom | 5.4 | cores |
| Planning cores after headroom | 7.02 | cores |
| Suggested replicas | 4 | replicas |
| Actual ideal CPU utilization | 67.5% | |
| Requested capacity ratio | 87.8% | |
| CPU work per request | 45 | ms |
- Headroom multiplies planning demand; it is not a measured Azure utilization reading.
Experiment steps
- Enter synthetic traffic and CPU service time per request.
- Compare ideal CPU utilization and headroom-adjusted requested capacity ratio by replica count.
- Use the result for architecture review, not as a load test or SKU recommendation.
Sources, formula, and limitations
Original synthetic inputs; formula: base cores = RPS × CPU ms ÷ 1000, planning cores = base cores × headroom, replicas = ceil(planning cores ÷ cores per replica).
Data uses 2026-10-10 teaching defaults, not Azure measurements; the chart shows ideal CPU and requested capacity ratio.
No real load, cold start, network, I/O, throttling, or Azure SKU data is used.
